Recreating Instagram & Pinterest Outfits #1
They’re not a perfect match but that’s the whole point
Stylist Allison Bornstein said in this Vogue article that ‘we don’t need more stuff, we need more ideas’. This mantra is something I’ve been trying to live by since I started my cost per wear (CPW) spreadsheet.
I quite often recreate outfits I’ve saved from Instagram or Pinterest whilst getting dressed so I thought I’d share some of my more recent picks. Bear in mind, when I say ‘recent’, this includes late Summer.
My hope is that this inspiration will help me wear some of my less worn items to reduce their cost per wear and inspire me to wear these pieces more often.
FYI - I only started calculating CPW on the 12th of August this year and I have not counted any wears before this date despite some items being worn into the ground. Take these numbers with a pinch of salt.
Let’s dive into some inspiration!!!
Kendall Jenner On Pinterest
I saw this outfit on Kendall Jenner and thought I could easily recreate it with things I already owned but make it more Scottish Autumn appropriate. It’s quite a simple outfit but I always button up my shirts so I thought this might give a slightly different look.
Starting off, I used a light grey polo neck instead of a T-shirt to give me some extra warmth. I don’t own a white cotton shirt but I do own a linen one which gives a more relaxed vibe.
Kendall is wearing more of a bootcut style of jeans which isn’t something I own. I opted to go for one of my favourite pairs instead - the Weekday Rowe jeans in Sea Blue.
To top it off, I added my secondhand M&S men’s camel cord blazer. I could’ve gone with a green checked men’s blazer (also M&S, also secondhand) that I have to match Kendall’s jacket better but I thought the camel colour would look better with these M&S boots.
The cherry red boots were an immediate purchase when I saw them in their newsletter in 2020. These still have a high CPW for me so I’d like to come up with more ways to wear these as they are beautiful.
CPW at the time of writing:
Polo neck: £5.00
Shirt: £6.66
Jeans: £4.86
Blazer: £2.50
Boots: £45.00
Amy Ward On Instagram

Amy Ward posted this on Instagram shortly after I bought myself a grey crewneck. I never thought of myself as a loungewear person but here I am obsessed with this jumper and it’s my most worn top since starting my CPW spreadsheet in August.
Anyway, I liked Amy’s outfit as it looked quite simple, comfy, and easy to recreate.
I substituted the Birkenstock Boston clogs for a pair of Birkenstock sandals when I wore this as it was still a bit warmer. Nothing beats a jumper, jeans, and sandals look for me and there are about 2 days a year when it is weather-appropriate.
CPW at the time of writing:
Crewneck: £0.38
Jeans: £7.00
Birkenstocks: £4.14
Nicole DeMarco On Instagram

Nicole DeMarco was brought to my attention in this post by Allison Bornstein on Instagram. I recognised that I really loved the socks and trainers alongside the oversized blazer.
I don’t own any identical pieces but I picked items that were similar to Nicole’s and I think the outcome gives the same vibe.
I went for my navy long-sleeve v-neck from M&S and a denim skirt from Topshop as my base. I’ve become a bit obsessed with adding belts of late so added this mock croc one from Topshop.
The most similar blazer I have to Nicole’s is this cord one from M&S. As for the last piece of the puzzle, I paired my Stradivarius trainers (a.k.a Samba/Gola dupes) with a pair of white socks. My socks are actually men’s socks so they’re a bit longer but I guess that kept my legs a little bit warmer…
Overall, I felt really good in this outfit even though I don’t really like getting my legs out. Would definitely wear this again next Summer!
Cost per wear at the time of writing:
Blazer: £2.50
V-neck Top: £4.50
Skirt: £5.80
Belt: £0.71
Trainers: £1.80
Jennifer Lawrence On Pinterest
If you didn’t see Jennifer Lawrence in ‘No Hard Feelings’ over Summer, you need to. I hadn’t laughed out loud so much in the cinema in a long time. Getting back to the point, the outfits she wore on the press tour for the film and in paparazzi shots have been 10/10.
As previously mentioned, my shirts are always buttoned up so I liked the way that JL wore her smart shirt in a casual way. My thinking was that I could get a lot more wear out of my own shirts if I allowed myself to wear them in a different way.
Red isn’t in my clothing colour palette so I swapped this for my blue Zara shirt. I really should’ve ironed it but clearly, I thought it was ok… The rest of the outfit is very loosely inspired by Jennifer Lawrence but I definitely have pieces that could make the outfit more like hers.
I have quite a lot of smart shirts so I can also recreate this look with other colours to try to reduce their CPW too.
CPW at the time of writing:
Shirt: £19.99
T-shirt: £3.23
Jeans: £13.20
Belt: £0.83
Birkenstocks: £4.14
I hope you enjoyed these recreations. This might become a series because there is endless inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest, amongst other platforms. Maybe next time I’ll pick more season-appropriate looks.
If there is anyone in particular I should follow for some good outfit inspo, please let me know in the comments.

P.S. Thanks for ignoring my laundry drying in the background.
