To start with, I think I have maybe been slightly too ambitious in trying to post a Substack every week but I’m going to keep going until I can’t think of any more ideas. This post was written very last minute last night under the pressure of a 1-hour timer so I’d have something to post today :D
I thought I’d reflect back on 5 outfits I’d worn recently alongside the cost per wear (CPW) of the items and calculate how much each outfit cost to put on. The CPW prices are correct as of the 6th of November.
Outfit 1
I call this my ‘Boston’ outfit as I bought this jumper in Boston (surprise surprise) last year and then wore it to go and walk around Harvard. You can’t see them, but I’m wearing a long-sleeved top and a thermal top under the hoody. The thermal was a Christmas present from my Gran about 5 years ago so that’s why there is no CPW value.
Cost Per Wear:
Hoody: £2.00
Blazer: £2.00
Top: £1.86
Thermal: £0.00
Jeans: £2.62
Converse: £5.04
Bag: £3.33
Total: £16.85
Outfit 2
This M&S coat was a Christmas present from my Mum last year and it makes me feel like a 1930s detective. I need to wear it more this Winter. I bought these green Adidas Gazelle trainers in September. At first, I wasn’t sure if I should get them as they were £85 but I’ve already worn them 27 times making them the most worn item in my wardrobe.
Cost Per Wear:
Coat: £13.00
Jumper: £3.90
Thermal: £0.00
Jeans: £2.62
Trainers: £3.15
Total: £22.67
Outfit 3
I wore this outfit to the office during one of the recent storms. I intentionally wore these Zara faux leather trousers as I thought the rain would just roll right off them and it did! Functional, fun and I wasn’t sitting in a damp pair of jeans all day. Based on the very high CPW, I need to wear these a lot more…
Cost Per Wear:
Jumper: £3.90
Thermal: £0.00
Trousers: £29.99
Belt: £0.50
Boots: £4.50
Total: £38.89
Outfit 4:
Don’t mind me eating a toaster waffle for breakfast whilst taking this photo. I have two of this exact same black polo neck top as I wear it so much. I wasn’t sure how to keep track of the price of separate items when they are identical. However, my friend Clara had the brilliant idea of doubling the price and combining the items. Thanks Clara!
Cost Per Wear:
Blazer: £5.00
Polo neck: £4.00
Jeans: £4.44
Trainers: £3.15
Total: £16.59
Outfit 5:
This dark green jumper was my Gran’s (no CPW price) and this was my first time wearing it. It’s real wool so I wore this linen shirt underneath to stop it itching my skin. If you’re thinking I look like I’m in primary school, don’t worry, I did too :D
Cost Per Wear:
Jumper: £0.00
Shirt: £5.00
Jeans: £2.62
Trainers: £3.15
Total: £10.77
In conclusion, I think it’s obvious that I wear my M&S thermal long-sleeve tops and Weekday Rowe jeans a lot as they’re in 3/5 and 4/5 outfits.
It is also apparent that I need to wear the Zara faux leather trousers more. Maybe I should try and create some outfits with them to make them more of a ‘regular’ item in my wardrobe.
Thanks for reading,
Lily
My Adidas Gazelle is also one of my items with lowest CPW. Does it mean we should buy one of each colour?! 😂
